Ito Lab Wins 1st Place in the 15th Community Revitalisation and Urban Design Competition.

Ito Lab has won 1st Place (The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award) with their entry ‘Tate-Ito x Yoko-Ito (Vertical Threads and Horizontal Threads): A Textured Town of Vertical and Horizontal Threads’ in the 15th Community Revitalisation and Urban Design Competition run by Machizukuri Gekkan Zenkokuteki Gyoji Jikko Iinkai and the UDC (Urban Design Center).

Set in the Yanagase-Tamamiya Street area, the central shopping area of Gifu City, the design proposes three main north-south running ‘vertical’ threads that promote movement and fine east-west ‘horizontal’ threads that draw on the local topography and histories to create cozy wandering paths and woven spaces through the town.
